The cabinet cleared major steps for carving out a separate Telangana state from Andhra Pradesh. Hyderabad will be shared for 10 years as the capital of the old and new state. Two cabinet ministers, Pallam Raju and KS Rao, registered their strong dissent at today's meeting.
Over two months after the Congress Working Committee put its seal of approval, the Union Cabinet approved the proposal of the Home Ministry for creation of the 29th state and decided to set up a Group of Ministers (GoM) to work out modalities.
