High Alert in Telangana with 11 swine flu deaths and 250 cases in January. The worst hit state in country is Telangana. The Telangana government is putting effort to control and treat swine flu cases in the state. To prevent the spread of the disease, the government is even advising people to say no to handshakes and hugs and only say ‘Namaste’ to greet people. The government is reaching out to people and creating awareness about preventive measures.
According to reports, a team of health experts on Friday had completed its assessment of the swine flu situation in Telangana and called for improving hygiene and pro-active testing of samples. Telangana government held an urgent cabinet meeting on Wednesday to Cautious on measures to control the H1N1 virus.
IPM tested 687 samples out of which 34.06 percent resulted positive. This could lead to cross-infection if preventive measures are not taken immediately to identify and isolate victims suffering from swine flu for treatment. Independent experts have advised the government to concentrate on prevention programmes in schools with instructions.
The Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad which has specialized wards and is designated for treatment of the H1N1 cases has recorded five deaths out of the 17 cases it treated last year. Two of them were in July-August while three deaths occurred in December. Three patients are under treatment now. However, the advice is to maintain proper hygiene and precaution to prevent the flu.
There is no reason to panic but simple precautions like maintaining hygiene – covering nose while sneezing, hand washing etc are needed. Consulting a doctor is advised if someone shows the symptoms of high fever, running nose, headache, cough, sore throat etc for more than 48 hours.
